Characters - Harry DresdenHarry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is pretty unique at what he does.No, he doesn't juggle with chainsaws.. He's the only practicing wizard in Chicagoland. He even has an add in the Yellow Pages... under wizards. He's the only one there, believe me. About a year ago he set up shop in Chicago, running an office, trying to help people with supernatural experiences. Of course, nobody takes him for real and most people just call his office to ask if he's serious. Yes, he is. Harry got his three names from his father who was a stage magician. Therefore all the names are those of great magicians. Harry Houdini, Blackstone the stage illusionist, you name them. His mother passed away in childbirth and is suspected to have been the one with the real magical talent. Not much is knows about his parents beyond that. Harry's father died from an aneurism when Harry was a kid. The only real thing left from his parents is the silver pentacle inherited from his mother. But although Harry tries to help people where he can, his life isn't all roses. Since most people don't believe in the supernatural, his business is always in the brink of existense. He makes most of his money by helping the police with their investigations. Lt. Karrin Murphy - head of the Special Investigations Department of the Chicago police - is one of his only friends. But money isn't the only problem Harry has to deal with. Besides various creatures from the Nevernever which would like to kill him, there is also the White Councel - the head quarter of wizards and other magical practitioners. After Harry killed his former master - who wanted to seduce him to black magic - the Council is split into two partees. One party wanted him dead for violating the Laws of Magic, the other knew that he only defended his life. So, they put him on some sort of accelerated probation: One strike and he's out. Though he had proved his good intentions with taking out a drug-producing warlock and the s o-called Doom of Damocles is lifted from him, there might still be a chance that some of the Council's members want to see him dead. And besides the danger for his life in general, his social life is more than... dreary. Okay.. so there is Susan Rodriguez - the sexy-as-hell reporter of the Midwestern Arcane, but their relationship is so twisted that they both don't think about it too much. Having acid-spitting demon interrupting your date isn't such a good thing to begin with. And, of course, there is Bob. Bob the Skull. Bob is a spirit of air and the magical equivalent of a database. He is trapped in a skull in Harry's sub-basement and helps him where he can. But Bob isn't the only flat-mate. There is still Mister the cat who claims to be the owner if the apartment. Well.. this might be what you need to know about Harry without me telling you too much. |
